A fully qualified approved driving instructor (ADI) must display a green certificate on the windscreen of the car while teaching you. Some trainee driving instructors are granted a licence so they can gain experience before their qualifying examination. In this case, the trainee driving instructor must display a pink certificate on the windscreen.

The only requirement for hourly lessons is that you must hold a current provisional driving licence. Lessons are taken for a minimum of 1 hour, but you can have as many lessons as you require a week. Whilst learning to drive the Theory Test should be taken and passed then the Instructor and the pupil will mutually decide when the Practical Test is to be taken. The average person will take anything from 20 - 40 hours tuition to reach the standard that is required to pass the driving test. It is beneficial to the pupil to have as many lessons as they can over a short period of time.
